Celebrating 20 Years of Impactful Youth and Community Development

Greetings, dear readers of the "Be Intentional and Purposeful Today" Newsletter

Today marks a special day – my birthday.

I’ve decided to publish this special edition to celebrate my birthday with all my Newsletter subscribers.

Although I intended to publish this morning, this had to be delayed as I was enjoying a lovely breakfast prepared by my boys.

Had to also take sometime for reflection.

I’m a breakfast person but had recently skipped it due to the amount of work I usually dedicate myself to completing every morning.

I normally have my only cup of coffee for the day at 05h30 am and this keeps me active until midday, 12h00 pm.

I can survive the first 7 hours of my day ( I wake up at 04h30 am to assist my boys with preparations for school) with just a cup of coffee.

Having a full breakfast prepared by my three boys on my birthday has been a tradition adopted by my family for quite sometime now.

So, my family normally insist on my birthday that I should sit down and have an easy morning whilst they prepare a beautiful breakfast for me.

And luckily, my birthday this year is during their school recess. Talk about being blessed!

Enough of personal festivities.

Today, I also want to take this moment to share my journey, aspirations and the driving force behind our beloved Newsletter - "Be Intentional and Purposeful Today" with all my subscribers.

🌱 Roots in Township Youth Development πŸŒ±

I am a content entrepreneur deeply rooted in the township, with over two decades of unwavering commitment to youth and community development.

My journey began in 2001 and it has been an incredible ride.

πŸ† A Triangular Path of Experience πŸ†

My path has been triangular, spanning volunteering for 5 years, government service for 11 years and the last 6 years as an entrepreneur focusing on youth & community development.

This diverse experience has been the bedrock of my expertise.

🌟 Phemelo Kebinelang: The Catalyst for Change πŸŒŸ

I have had the privilege of serving as the Head of the Youth Unit in the City of Johannesburg Municipality, but my journey didn't stop there.

Here's a glimpse into what I've achieved:

✨ Youth Empowerment Through Learnerships and Internships βœ¨

I've implemented numerous learnership and internship programmes, touching the lives of over 10,000 young individuals.

πŸ“˜ Authorship and Beyond πŸ“˜

My commitment to youth development led me to write the book, "How to Turn A Learnership Into Permanent Employment."

Knowledge shared is knowledge multiplied.

The book is available on request via e-mail at [email protected].

🌐 "Be Intentional and Purposeful Today" is Born πŸŒ

The birth of our beloved "Be Intentional and Purposeful Today" online newsletter is a testament to my dedication.

It's not just a newsletter; it's a platform for change.

🌱 Nurturing Skills and Centres for the Youth πŸŒ±

I've played a role in establishing 10 Youth Advisory and Skills Centers across the 7 regions of the City of Johannesburg.

These centres aim to empower youth with skills, training and opportunities.

πŸš€ Global Outreach, Local Impact πŸš€

My reach extends beyond borders.

I've partnered with organizations like the Rockefeller Foundation and Mentec Foundation, training and hosting more than 500 youth on the SAP Software programme.

🌍 One Young World Conference and More 🌍

One of the highlights of my journey was hosting over 2,000 youth from around the world at the One Young World Conference hosted by the City of Johannesburg, with the late UN Secretary-General Mr. Kofi Annan, as the keynote speaker.

πŸ“œ Listed Among the Influential πŸ“œ

I'm humbled to have been listed as one of the 200 influential youth by Mail and Guardian.

πŸ“ˆ Creating Desks for Youth in Business πŸ“ˆ

I took the initiative to establish the first Youth in Business and Young Women in Business Desks in the City of Johannesburg.

πŸŒ† Contributing to the 2010 Soccer World Cup πŸŒ†

As chief coordinator, I led young people in preparing for the 2010 Soccer World Cup Final, which included tour guide, cleaning, refurbishing and painting public spaces.

🌍 International Collaboration 🌍

I've had the privilege of sharing best practices with organizations in the US and Brazil, focusing on the rehabilitation of offenders.

πŸ”— Learnership Programmes for Ex-Offenders πŸ”—

In a groundbreaking move, we initiated a learnership programme for young ex-offenders in partnership with Nicro, opening doors to permanent employment for some.

🌱 Diverse Youth Programmes πŸŒ±

From youth entrepreneurship to job creation and agriculture, I've worked on numerous programmes, partnering with Youth in Agriculture and Rural Development & Women in Agriculture and Rural Development for a productive, more prosperous City of Johannesburg.

πŸš€ Championing Career Expos and Exhibitions πŸš€

I've passionately organized career expos and exhibitions, guiding young talents towards brighter futures.

πŸ›οΈ Educating About Crime and its Consequences πŸ›οΈ

We've organized prison tours to educate young minds about the realities of crime, prison life and its lasting effects.

🀝 Youth at Risk and Diversion Programs πŸ€

Working closely with JMPD, we've facilitated programmes to support youth at risk and divert them away from harmful paths.

πŸ—£οΈ Inspiring Offenders for Positive Change πŸ—£οΈ

Addressing offenders in correctional facilities, I've encouraged them to establish NPOs/NGOs after release, helping to deter future crimes.

πŸŒ† Community Engagement and Empowerment πŸŒ†

I've actively coordinated Ward-based Youth Forums and Police Stations Youth Desks across the City of Johannesburg.

🌈 Anti-Drug Awareness Campaign πŸŒˆ

I played a pivotal role in implementing the Ke Moja Anti-Drug Awareness Campaign within the City of Johannesburg and Gauteng Province.

🀲 A Passion for Collaboration and Skills Development πŸ€²

Throughout my journey, I've established partnerships, collaborated on youth skills development and championed various training programmes.
