Your Path to Visibility, Confidence & Remote Job Opportunities
This is Day 10 of the 21-Day Remote Jobs Challenge!
You’ve built your remote CV, crafted your story, and started applying for jobs.
Now, it’s time to take your job search up a notch with the Cold Outreach Challenge.
Today’s mission is all about proactive networking: DM or email two businesses offering your services, post something valuable on LinkedIn, and comment on five posts.
These small actions can open doors to hidden opportunities and help you build a network that works for you.
If you’re feeling nervous or unsure, remember: every connection starts with a single message, and every post is a chance to be seen.
Your Cold Outreach & LinkedIn Engagement Playbook.
1. Cold Outreach (DM/Email 2 Businesses):
Research Your Targets: Find two businesses or professionals who could benefit from your skills.
Check their LinkedIn profiles or company pages for recent updates or needs.
Personalise Your Message: Mention something specific about their business or recent work.
Keep your message concise, friendly, and focused on how you can help.
Offer Value, Not Just a Pitch: Clearly state what you offer and how it solves a problem for them.
Avoid generic pitches—show you’ve done your homework.
Include a Call to Action: Suggest a quick call or ask if they’re open to learning more.
Keep it low-pressure and easy to respond to.
2. Engage on LinkedIn:
Leave thoughtful comments, ask questions, share your perspective, or highlight something specific from the post.
Aim to start conversations, not just leave “nice post!”
Purpose: Offer a specific, helpful service and open the door for a conversation.
Research Your Targets: Look for two small businesses or startups you admire.
You can find them on LinkedIn or Instagram.
Smaller companies are often more accessible.
Identify a Small Need: Spend a few minutes checking their website or social media.
Spot typos in captions?
Messy Instagram graphics?
A blog that could use a fresh article?
Find one small thing you could genuinely help with.
3. Email Pitching & Networking:
Craft a Compelling Subject Line: Keep it short and attention-grabbing (3–5 words).
Open Strong: Start with a personalised greeting and a quick reason for reaching out.
Show Interest and Value: Mention something you admire about their work, then explain how your skills or services can help.
Craft a Simple, Helpful Pitch:
Here’s a template you can tweak.
Keep it short, respectful, and focused on them.
Subject: A quick question about [Company Name]
Message: "Hi [Person's Name, if you can find it], My name is [Your Name], and I'm a huge fan of the work you're doing at [Company Name]. I was particularly impressed by [mention something specific, like a recent project or post]. As an aspiring [Your Skill, e.g., Social Media Manager/Virtual Assistant], I noticed you might need help with [the small need you identified]. For example, I could create three engaging and professional social media posts per week to free up your time. Would you be open to a brief 10-minute chat next week to discuss it? All the best, [Your Name]"
Hit Send and Let It Go: Once you send it, your job is done.
The outcome isn’t in your hands. The win is in taking action.
Follow Up: If you don’t hear back, send a polite follow-up after a few days. Persistence pays off!
You're Not a Pest, You're a Problem-Solver
Right now, you might worry, "I don't want to bother them," or "What if they get annoyed?"
Let’s flip that.
