Day 11: From Job Seeker to Service Provider - Asambe!
Happy Friday, team!
Take a deep breath and look back at how far you've come.
It’s Day 11, and you’re officially past the halfway mark of this 21-day challenge.
If this were the Comrades Marathon, you’d have just conquered the brutal hills and crossed the timing mat at Drummond, the famous halfway point.
This is where the race truly begins.
You’ve survived the toughest climbs of self-doubt and preparation.
You’ve built your CV, learned to pitch, and started applying for jobs.
Now, in the second half of our challenge, we switch gears.
We stop just asking for a seat at the table and start building our own.
Today, you move from job seeker to business owner by creating your first service on a freelance platform.
You’re no longer just hunting for remote gigs, you’re making them happen.
Think about it: 11 days ago, you started this journey with nothing but hope.
Today, you’re building your freelance empire on platforms where millions of dollars change hands daily.
While others are still polishing their CVs (which you nailed on Day 7), you’re about to join location-independent entrepreneurs who control their income, pick their clients, and work from anywhere.
This isn’t just about setting up a profile, it’s about planting your flag in the digital economy and saying, “I’m open for business!”
Whether you want to freelance full-time or as a side hustle, today you can diversify your remote work strategy like a pro.
It’s time to put a price on your skills and open your digital shop to the world.
Launch Your First Service Today
Creating a profile and a "gig" (a one-off service) on platforms like Fiverr, Upwork, or Contra is your first step into the global gig economy.
A gig lets clients hire you for a specific task, like “I will design one social media post” or “I will write a 300-word blog article.”
This playbook breaks down how to set up your first service and get your business live today.
PHASE 1: The Profile Foundation
Step 1: Choose Your Platform & Polish Your Profile
Action: Sign up on Fiverr (great for beginners with project-based services) or Upwork (good for hourly or project work).
Tip: Your profile is your storefront.
Use a professional headshot (Day 4) and paste in that killer bio you wrote on Day 9.
Make sure it’s 100% complete.
Complete profiles rank higher.
Step 2: Create Your First "Gig" or Service
Action: Pick one simple service based on the skills you identified on Day 3.
Don’t overthink it!
Start small and specific.
Examples:
Writing: “I will proofread your 500-word document.”
Design: “I will create one professional Instagram post using Canva.”
Admin: “I will do 30 minutes of data entry or internet research.”
Step 3: Write a Compelling Gig Title and Description
Action: Make your title clear and results-oriented.
Try: “I will [Your Service] to [Achieve a Result].”
For example, “I will write engaging SEO blog posts to boost your website traffic.”
Tip: In the description, clearly explain what the client gets, what you need from them, and why they should pick you. Use bullet points to keep it easy to read.
Step 4: Set Your Price and Add a Portfolio Piece
Action: Price your gig competitively. Check what other new sellers charge.
Starting at $5-$15 (around R90-R270) is smart.
The goal?
Get your first review, not get rich on day one.
Tip: Gigs with visuals get more clicks.
Don’t have client work?
Create your own sample.
Writers can craft a short blog post and save it as a PDF.
Designers can make a sample graphic.
Show, don’t just tell.
PHASE 2: The Gig That Gets Noticed
Step 1: Pick ONE service you can deliver exceptionally well, social media management, basic graphic design, content writing, virtual assistance, data entry, or PowerPoint presentations.
Step 2: Check out successful gigs in your category.
Note their titles, descriptions, and pricing.
Step 3: Write your gig title using power words:
“I will [specific action] for [target audience] in [timeframe].”
Example: “I will create 30 engaging Instagram captions for your business in 24 hours.”
Step 4: Write your gig description starting with the client’s pain point, then your solution, what’s included, and what to expect.
Add 3 package tiers if you can: Basic (essential service), Standard (basic + extras), Premium (everything + rush delivery).
PHASE 3: The Launch & Optimise Strategy
Step 2: Send personalized messages to 5 potential clients on the platform, introduce yourself, mention something specific about their business, and explain how you can help.
Step 3: Join relevant groups on the platform and contribute useful insights (not sales pitches).
Step 4: Track your progress daily: profile views, gig impressions, messages, and conversion rate. Plan to tweak your gig title and description weekly based on what you learn.
