You open your phone before your feet even hit the floor.
Scroll through TikTok.
Tap into Instagram.
Respond to WhatsApp messages.
You’re online all day, but here’s my point: being online doesn’t mean you’re building.
It doesn’t mean you’re earning.
And it definitely doesn’t mean you’re growing.
That stings, especially when you want to do more but don’t know where to start.
Today, the internet is the biggest opportunity equaliser we’ve ever had, and it’s already in your hands.
But here’s an eye-opener: the internet only pays you when you create, not just consume.
Right now, young people across South Africa are using the same apps you have — Canva, WhatsApp, YouTube, CapCut — to design logos, create videos, build digital CVs, and sell services.
No fancy laptop.
No marketing degree.
Just a decision to shift from “just being online” to “doing something online.”
They’re not more gifted than you.
They just realised that being digital isn’t the same as being intentional.
You can literally change your life’s path by swapping 30 minutes of scrolling for 30 minutes of creating, learning, or sharing value.
That’s the mindset you didn’t know you needed, not from likes, but from knowing you’re building something that will pay off in three months, not six seconds.
